Personal Transformation

Life-changing growth that flows from authentic encounters with Christ, His Word, godly faculty, and student peers

Real World Engagement

Discovery and development of gifts, passions and sense of calling through hands-on ministry, service learning and intercultural study opportunities

Life on Mission

Passionate participation in God’s global mission and Kingdom priorities

Biblical

An ABHE education involves extensive and rigorous study of the biblical text—its nature, narrative, interpretation, and teaching—aimed at building a coherent worldview framework for thinking and living flowing from the dispositions of both student and disciple.

Transformational

An ABHE education is intentionally transformational as students engage the life-changing Word of God and form authentic relationships with godly faculty and student peers—learning what it means to live out Kingdom values and Gospel priorities before a watching world.

Experiential

An ABHE education is experiential—involving hands-on ministry, service learning, and intercultural study opportunities that help students to discover their unique God-given gifts, passions, and sense of calling and to exercise and grow the life, ministry, and leadership skills required for passionate and proficient service.

Missional

An ABHE education is missional—because an authentically biblical worldview compels all believers, regardless of present or future occupation–to understand their personal vocation within the context of history’s destiny: the day when all peoples have heard the Good News and the kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdom of our God and of His Christ.

Ralph Enlow – CIU Alumnus of the Year

Dr. Ralph Enlow (‘72/’82) felt a bit sheepish about receiving the 2017 Columbia International University Alumnus of the Year Award. That’s because when he was on staff at CIU, he advocated for the award, even laying out biblical reasoning for the honor.

“Here I stand a victim of my own biblical reasoning. O the irony,” Enlow chuckled before hundreds of fellow alumni, faculty and staff gathered for the President’s Banquet at Homecoming 2017.

Appalachian Bible College in Top Two Most Beautiful Bible Colleges

abc-campus-fallAppalachian Bible College has been named in the top two of the “50 Most Beautiful Bible Colleges 2017.” In the list published last month, Christian Universities Online ranked ABC second only to Clark Summit University in Pennsylvania. Criteria used to evaluate accredited Christian colleges and universities across the U.S. were continuity of campus, architectural style, signature buildings, and natural setting. The full list can be viewed at www.christianuniversitiesonline.org/50-most-beautiful-bible-colleges-2017. “Southern West Virginia is a picturesque setting, and we work hard to maintain a clean and comfortable campus,” comments President Daniel Anderson. “I often hear compliments from visitors as they drive or walk around our facilities.” Anderson adds, “From our very humble beginnings on this former dairy farm in the 1950s, God has truly blessed us and the Beckley community has given us a scenic place to call home. Our objective is to equip servant-hearted people for Christian ministry; it’s a special blessing to be able to do that in the beautiful hills of Raleigh County. I extend an invitation for community members to come see it for themselves and enjoy our hospitality.” As West Virginia’s only accredited Bible college, Appalachian Bible College has been training men and women to serve in church-related ministries since 1950—beginning first in Pettus, WV. ABC offers Bible Certificate, Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, and Master of Arts programs, including online courses. The 150-acre campus is located just north of Beckley, WV, and is also home to Alpine Ministries, providing outdoor programs and adventure recreation. Calvary ranked #26 out of 1,300 colleges for lowest student debt

Calvary-University-Logo-300x84In a recent report by LendEDU, Calvary University was ranked #26 out of 1,300 colleges for the lowest student loan debt per borrower. The report indicated that Calvary graduates are finishing school with a relatively very low amount of student debt.

According to College Board, the average student at an in-state public school should expect to pay about $19,548 this year. And, the average student at a private nonprofit should expect to spend about $43,921 this year. Average total cost of attending Calvary is less than $16,000 per year, including tuition, fees, and room and board, keeping Calvary students’ costs well below even in-state public schools.

Calvary has sought to keep tuition and other expenses as low as possible, and Calvary’s generous scholarship programs and Study Work Program have also contributed to helping students minimize student debt.

Calvary University changed its name from Calvary Bible College and Theological Seminary in July 2016.

ABHE Students Speak Out

Because Education Should Have Value

Cairn University student, George, knows that an education isn’t worth much if it doesn’t make a lasting impact in your life. He used to think that he already had most of the facts he needed to quickly breeze through college, but is now finding his time at Cairn to be a much richer and valuable experience than he imagined. His education at Cairn, more precious than money.

Sharing Her Story

Story-LauraLaura Story, recording artist, never dreamed of having such a unique platform for serving the Lord. She credits Columbia International University with helping her understand and apply Scripture to her career, believing the context of ministry is ultimately less important than the motivation behind it. The ministry that God has called me to happens to involve microphones and being on stage, Story said. But the core of ministry is acknowledging that God has given each of us a story and being willing to share that story of how we’ve seen God’s faithfulness in our lives.

Nurturing the Soul

YonaRobertsAny university gives out college degrees, but few nurture the Christian soul, said Yona Roberts (B.A. 03, MSC 04) about her educational experience with Hope International University. Roberts, who is a resource specialist at Pendleton Elementary, was awarded the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award both for Pendleton Elementary and the Buena Park School District for 2010.  Attending Hope gives you the opportunity to nurture your spirit as well as your mind. I made a core group of friends that will last a lifetime. The service projects that were available grew my love for those who are less fortunate than myself, and the dorm nights and chapel services helped me connect to God on a personal level.
