ABHE & ACSI Partnership
By means of a formal Memorandum of Affiliation, ABHE and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) have resolved to collaborate in assuring, advancing, and advocating for distinctively biblical and excellent Christian education at the preschool, primary, secondary, and tertiary levels under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of the Christian Scriptures.
ACSI’s accredited member schools, as well as postsecondary institutions which have achieved ACSI’s teacher education program approval (HEAP) are, according to terms of the MOA, accorded Associate ABHE membership.
ABHE officially recognizes and co-endorses the work of ACSI’s commission(s) on EE-12 Christian school accreditation and postsecondary teacher education program accreditation. Our associations jointly approve, publish, and promulgate standards pertaining to distinctively biblical and Christian EE-12 Christian school accreditation and postsecondary teacher education program accreditation. ABHE and ACSI accept, recognize, and support the accreditation decisions made by their respective accrediting commissions. Membership of each association’s accrediting commission(s) includes representation from the other.
ACSI has engaged in EE-12 school accreditation since its founding in 1978. Its accreditation, like ABHE’s, is based upon the principles of institutional integrity, self-study and peer review. It accredits institutions not only in North America but also in many regions of the world. ACSI’s HEAP (Higher Education Approval Program) reviews and validates the quality, biblical substance, and Christian educational philosophy of postsecondary teacher education programs resulting in conferral of ACSI teacher certification for graduates of approved programs.
ACSI’s mission, exists to strengthen Christian schools and equip Christian educators worldwide as they prepare students academically and inspire them to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ, is compatible with ABHE’s mission, to enhance the quality and credibility of postsecondary educational institutions that distinctively engage students in biblical, transformational, experiential, and missional higher education. ACSI seeks to validate authentic Christian schools and programs through four interwoven quality strands: (1) academic ideas and thinking; (2) skills for life and living; (3) biblical worldview grounding; and (4) personal character, values, and spiritual formation. These foci are highly congruent with ABHE’s Standards for Accreditation and core values of biblical, transformational, experiential, and missional higher education. This alliance enhances the mission fulfillment of both organizations and empowers ABHE’s vision for global gospel impact expanding in scale, scope and significance.
