Chair of the Psychology Department

Job Description: – The Chair of the Psychology Department oversees the administration of the residential and online psychology programs, advises students who are psychology majors, and carries a full teaching load. These responsibilities are further outlined below.

Supervisor: The Chair of the Psychology Department reports directly to the Vice President of Academics & Provost.

Status: Full Time

Responsibilities:

Teaching and Advising
● The department chair position is a full-time, 9-month appointment, and the chair is expected to carry a teaching load of 12-15 credit hours per semester.
● The department chair oversees the academic advising of all psychology majors, both residential and online. Advisors provide assistance and counsel with educational planning, career choices,
personal and spiritual issues. Advisors work with the Registrar and faculty to implement
interventions for those students with academic concerns.
● The department chair participates in full faculty meetings.

Administration
● The department chair oversees program review, which entails an extensive program self-study every five years. Our residential Psychology major is due for review in the 2026-2027 academic year.
● The department chair participates in division meetings as necessary, working alongside other departmental faculty.

Required Qualifications:
● An accredited MA or MS in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Psychology
● The ability to integrate psychology and Christianity
● Knowledge of technology common to teaching in higher education
● Effective interpersonal and communication skills
● Collegial attitude with the ability to effectively lead teams
● Highest levels of integrity and confidentiality
● A commitment to the overall mission of Barclay College
● Must be in good standing with any licensing boards if a professional license is held

Preferred Qualifications:
● An accredited Ph.D. in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Psychology
● Higher education teaching experience
● Clinical experience
