On Friday, June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS) ruled that US States are obligated to recognize and affirm gay marriage. In characterizing the SCOTUS decision and Justice Anthony Kennedy’s 5-4 majority opinion, The New York Times asserted Supreme Court Makes Gay Marriage a Right Nationwide.
We of the Association for Biblical Higher Education reaffirm our constitutional commitment to our Tenets of Faith, which includes the affirmation that our beliefs and practices regarding human sexuality, marriage, and all other issues are subject to the Bible’s authoritative teaching, as follows:
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
Along with the National Association of Evangelicals, we reaffirm our convictions concerning the Bible’s authority and its clear teaching that marriage is a God-ordained union between one man and one woman, and reassert our claim upon the Constitutional guarantees of religious liberty affirmed by Justice Kennedy and President Obama. We express solidarity with the assessment and stance regarding these issues commended by our friends at the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and our partner, the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
We humbly pray and steadfastly commit ourselves to learning, living, and serving in faithfulness to our Lord Jesus Christ whose demeanor was described by John His disciple as, full of grace and truth (Jn. 1:14).
