Director, ABHE Commission on Accreditation
The Association for Biblical Higher Education Commission on Accreditation invites nominations and applications for the role of Director – Commission on Accreditation, to begin duties on or around July 1, 2021.
The Association for Biblical Higher Education’s Commission on Accreditation (COA) is recognized as a national, faith-related accrediting agency by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The agency’s official scope of CHEA recognition is as follows: Institutions and programs in the United States, Canada, and related territories that offer certificates, diplomas, associate, baccalaureate or graduate degrees aimed at preparing students for Christian ministries through Biblical, church-vocational and general studies.
The COA is also recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) as a national, specialized, institutional accrediting agency. The agency’s official scope of USDE recognition (primarily for the purpose of participation in U.S. Title IV financial aid programs) is as follows: the accreditation and pre-accreditation (“Candidate Status”) of institutions of biblical higher education in the United States offering undergraduate certificates, associate degrees, baccalaureate degrees, graduate certificates, and master’s degrees, including the accreditation of educational programs offered via distance education.
The Director exercises leadership among internal and external ABHE stakeholders, strongly articulating and advocating the interests of biblical higher education by actively contributing to national and international dialogue and policy making regarding quality assurance in biblical higher education. He or she works closely with the ABHE Commission on Accreditation (COA) to ensure the integrity, security, independence, and confidentiality of accreditation processes and supporting documentation in keeping with the “separate and independent” requirements of Section 602.14(b)&(c) of US Department of Education regulations. Oversees implementation of accreditation standards and policies, as well as consultation, evaluation and decision-making processes relative to applicant, candidate, and accredited institutions.
The Director serves as a member of ABHE’s Executive Leadership Team providing Commission perspective on key organizational issues. A full description and summary of duties and responsibilities is available in the Position Description.
- Earned doctoral degree or equivalent in higher education, biblical/theological studies, or other relevant discipline
- Minimum 10 years’ previous Biblical higher education administration or faculty experience, including significant institutional effectiveness/accreditation involvement
- Teaching and/or administrative experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels
- Evidence of a vital Christian experience, exemplary personal character, and agreement with ABHE Tenets of Faith and Core Values
- Exceptional proficiency in written and oral communication

- ABHE offices are located in Orlando, Florida. The position requires significant travel and the Director is expected to reside in the Orlando area.

The Director of the Commission on Accreditation for ABHE reports to the President of ABHE, subject to conditions and limitations pertaining to the “separate and independent” requirements of Section 602.14(b)&(c) of US Department of Education regulations and is accountable to the ABHE Commission on Accreditation as pertains to the “separate and independent” requirements of Section 602.14(b)&(c) of US Department of Education regulations.

Applicants advancing to the candidate stage will be asked to complete a detailed candidate questionnaire including a statement of Christian faith, a statement on the philosophy of accreditation in biblical higher education, and professional references. Following reference checks, degree verification, and completed background checks, select candidates will advance to the interview stage in early 2021. The position is subject to approval by Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education in North America.
