ABHE Communities FAQ

General

What is my username/password?

You can log in using your institution email and reset your password using this link. Enter your institution email address, check your inbox, and follow the instructions in the email to reset your password. If you do not receive an email to reset your password, please check your spam folder.

I’m trying to log in for the first time. Why am I not receiving an email to reset my password?

First, check your spam/junk folder in your email inbox. If you do not receive an email to reset your password, you can email Jazmine Grafton at jazmine.grafton@abhe.org to set up your account.

How do I update my contact information?

Log into ABHE Communities, click on your profile photo in the top right corner, and select “Profile.” On the left, click the pencil icon, and enter your information accordingly. To change your email, you will need to reach out Jazmine Grafton at jazmine.grafton@abhe.org for assistance as that will result in creating a new account tied to your new email.

How is this different from existing social media?

ABHE Communities is not a social media platform like Facebook or LinkedIn. While those platforms are designed for broad public interaction and self-promotion, ABHE Communities offers a private, secure space for intentional networking and collaboration within the biblical higher education community. Only verified ABHE members can access the platform. This exclusivity ensures that networking happens in the right context, among peers who share a common mission, face similar challenges, and value Christ-centered education. Members can ask questions, share resources, and engage in meaningful dialogue with others who truly understand their work and calling. The tone of the platform reflects what is expected at in-person ABHE conferences. This platform encourages mutual respect, purposeful collaboration, and thoughtful conversation. It is not about likes or followers; it is about connection and shared purpose within a trusted community.

Networking

How can I find specific members?

Click the “Directory” link found in the main navigation bar. The Directory lets you search for other users based on:

  • First and/or last name
  • Company/Institution name
  • Email address
  • Location

How do I add contacts to my contact list?

There are two ways:

  • Click the “Add as Contact” button to the right of each person listed in the results of a Directory search. A request will be sent to the individual.
  • Click the contact request link to the right of an individual’s profile picture when viewing their profile. A request will be sent to the individual.

Why should I add contacts to my contact list?

Creating this virtual address book makes it easy to send your contacts messages through the community site to stay in touch, ask questions, or build a referral network. Additionally, when you view another member’s profile, you’ll be able to see any contacts you have in common. You can also choose to let your contacts view certain demographics in your profile that others can’t.

Communities

How do I find what communities I am in?

Go to “Communities” in the main navigation bar. Select “My Communities” to view the communities you currently belong to.

Can I search for posts across all my communities?

Yes, enter a keyword in the search bar located in the main navigation. To refine your search results, use the filters on the left menu.

Can I invite someone else to join a community?

This is currently a member-exclusive benefit, so anyone at an ABHE institution can be added to communities that are appropriate for them. To request to add a member, email Jazmine Grafton at jazmine.grafton@abhe.org with their contact information or complete this form HERE.

Can I join more than one community?

Yes. Staff at ABHE member institutions are able to be added to all communities that are appropriate to their role. To request to be added to another community or request a list of all the currently active communities, email Jazmine Grafton at jazmine.grafton@abhe.org.

Threads

How do I reply to a discussion post?

To respond to a discussion post, navigate to the discussion post and click “Reply” to send your message to the entire community. To send a message only to the author of the post, select “Reply Privately” (located in the “Reply” drop-down). To respond to a “Question” thread, click “Answer” to create an answer to the question.

How do I start a new thread?

  1. Navigate to the “Threads” tab.
  2. Select “Start New Thread” in the top right corner.
  3. Select “Open Ended Discussion” or “Question to be Answered.”
  4. Title and write your thread. Then you can either save it as a draft, schedule it to be posted later, or post right away to the community.

How do I post a thread anonymously?

When you are on the screen drafting your new post, you will see a small box right above the “Subject” line with the words “Post message anonymously.” Click the box next to this and your message will appear from an anonymous user.

All posts are expected to be respectful and not contain any overly sensitive information.

Will I be notified if someone replies to a thread that I started?

Yes! You will receive real-time participation emails as people reply to a thread/message you started. You can opt out of receiving these notifications by clicking on an “unsubscribe” link in the real-time participation email.

How do I follow a thread so I can get notifications new replies are added to that specific thread?

You will see the outline of a star next to each thread subject line. If you click on the star, it will become filled in, which means you are now following the thread and will receive real-time participation emails when replies are posted. If you decide to no longer follow the thread, you can click the star again to stop receiving real-time participation emails.

Libraries

How do I find resources that other members may have added?

If you know which library the resource might be located in, find the affiliated community via the “My Communities” link in the navigation bar. Click through the community’s landing page, then click the “Library” tab. From there, you can look through the entries and use the folders on the left menu to search in specific categories. If you do not know where the resource might be, enter search terms in the main search box at the top of the screen the same way you might enter search terms into a search engine.

How do the libraries get populated?

There are two ways:

  1. When you include an attachment in a discussion post, the system automatically places it in the affiliated library.
  2. You can also upload documents directly to a library by using the “Create Entry” button on any community’s library page. Library resources are not required to be associated with a discussion thread.

Please limit product recommendations to responses to others’ inquiries, rather than as promotional posts.

Notifications

How can I control the frequency of notifications?

Navigate to your profile by selecting your profile picture in the top right and choosing the drop-down “My Profile.” Click the “My Account” tab. Choose “Community Notifications” from the drop-down menu. On that page, there are subscription options: Real Time, Daily Digest, No Email. For each community, you have the following delivery options:

  • Real time: sends an email every time a new message is posted.
  • Daily digest: sends one email to you each day, consolidating all of the posts from the previous day.
  • No Email: allows you to be part of the group without having emails sent to you. You can still post and read others’ messages by logging into the community site.

On that same page, you can also check “Consolidated Weekly Digest.” This is a great option if you want to stay up to date but only receive one email a week. To activate this, set all the communities to “No Email” and then check the box under “Consolidated Weekly Digest.” You can also set the day of the week you wish to receive this email.

Can I unsubscribe from all communication?

Yes, but we encourage you to only unsubscribe if you are no longer with your institution. Unsubscribing from all communication will cause you to miss out on all official communications from ABHE. If you are receiving too many emails, we encourage you to unsubscribe from community notifications. Navigate to your profile and click the “My Account” tab. Choose “Email Preferences” from the drop-down menu, and customize notifications as you see fit.
