Summary: The Resident Director should facilitate a Christ-centered living and learning environment within the residence halls, promoting holistic growth and development.
Work Arrangement: The Resident Director is required to live on campus in the suite that is provided for them. This is a 9.5 month term position (mid-July until the end of April) with a 37.5 hours per week work schedule. This position is reviewed on an annual basis. Normal hours for a Resident Director are either Monday through Thursday from 10:30AM - 4:30PM or Tuesday through Friday from 10:30AM - 4:30PM. As well, there are evening responsibilities and some weekend responsibilities. Fridays or Mondays are given as a day off due to the Resident Director On-Call responsibilities. |

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Relationship Building: Take initiative to personally meet each student to discover their needs and interests, treating all students equally.
Residence Management: Aid in supervision of residence maintenance and custodial, report problems to the maintenance department. Complete room check-outs in the spring; inventory and assess damages. Monitor noise and behavioural issues; ensure open lounge hours and guidelines are respected.
Presence and Availability: Provide a mature presence within residence and be available to connect with students to develop relationships and for emergency response.
Spiritual Leadership: Lead at least one care group meeting for each RA and assist in the planning of others. Promote faithful attendance for all Residence Life meetings and activities, especially one-on-ones and RD group meetings.
Student profiling and room placement.
Interview and select Resident Assistant candidates.
Mentor Student Leaders: Meet weekly with each of your Resident Assistants to support and aid their growth
Planning and Leadership related to RA Training and Orientation: a. Assist the Director of Student Development in both planning and executing the Student Leadership Training week. b. Assist in tending to student arrivals: general preparations, activity planning, welcome procedures, information/placement centre, refreshments, guide, etc. c. Be visible at all Orientation week activities, i.e. Community BBQ, Welcome Banquet, etc.
Assist in the detection and intervention of Student Problem Areas: a. Academics (procrastination, failing, needing tutoring, missed classes) b. Unhealthy behavioural patterns (eating habits, relationships, etc.)
Administrative Duties: a. Occurrence reports of accidents and on-campus incidents including fire, theft, vandalism/damage, suicide attempt, death of a student b. Maintain accurate records of all discipline situations c. Maintain records of maintenance concerns/request.
On-Call: The three Resident Directors will be On-Call on a rotation basis with each rotation consisting of 7 days. On-Call hours are Monday to Thursday from 4:30pm to 8:30am and weekends from Friday at 4:30pm to Monday at 8:30am. On-Call hours may vary somewhat due to holidays or offices being closed.
Other: When possible, administer minor first aid in accordance to your ability and your supplies. Otherwise, refer to the nearest walk-in clinic or hospital, emergency transportation, academic assistance.
Assist the Director of Student Development in any matter that may be deemed necessary to maintain a strong residence community.
Wider Job Parameters:
- Meet with the Director of Student Development: a. Weekly one-on-ones for accountability, goal setting, counsel, sharing, prayer, etc. b. Corporately for weekly staff meetings for team building, idea sharing, information, etc.
- Serve on one non-Student Development related committee as requested.
- Regular attendance at all required meetings
- Other tasks that may be assigned by the Director of Student Development.

Job Specifications/Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in Student Development, Counselling or another related field is preferred.
Personal Requirements: The Resident Director should have a vibrant, growing, personal faith in Jesus Christ, a pastoral heart, leadership gifts, administrative abilities, be able to work as part of a team, show respect for differing denominations and cultures, and exhibit a willingness to continue to develop both personally and professionally. |
