| Position Overview: |
The Associate Vice President of Human Resources and
Institutional Health is a position in the PBI President’s Office and is a
member of the President’s Advisory Council
|
| Primary Responsibilities: | 1. General Administration President’s Council Responsibilities Participates in Council meetings and strategic planning sessions:
- Prepares Human Resource reports as required for various publics
- Attends Board of Directors meetings (November, April)
- Supervisory Relationships Reports directly to the President Administrative support shared with President Budget and financial
- Develops and implements the annual HR budget as approved
- Ensures that budget parameters are maintained/attained
- Department Oversees the general hiring of all PBI employees* Oversees the implementation of and ensures compliance with the PBI employee handbook.
- Provides oversight an development of PBI employee benefit plan
- Initiates and coordinates activities and processes to promote internal institutional health and understanding of purpose, vision and contexts.
- Arbitrates in conflict situations involving PBI employees.
- General duties related to the area of Human Resources.
- Public Relations As determined in conversation with the VP for Marketing and Enrolment Management
- the Associate VP for Development and the President, will act as liaison between PBI community and the Three Hills community.
*NOTE: a unique process exists for the hiring of faculty at each college as outlined in the employee handbook – the Associate VP of Human Resources will play a different role in each process of hiring faculty employees. The Associate VP of Human Resources will partner with supervisors and give general guidance for compliance for the hiring of non-faculty employees.
2. As workload allows and programs determine, the Associate VP of Human Resources may be invited to teach a course related to human relations and/or resources. Normally this would be limited to 1 course each year. Courses are determined by the Deans of the respective PBI colleges.
3. Professional Development Maintains personal faculty portfolio, including updated documents, annual development plans, assessments, etc. Attends conferences/seminars in field, as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES
- Strong relational and communication skills and the ability to work with other staff to accomplish Prairie’s mission.
- Knowledge of and unreserved commitment to Prairie’s mission, doctrinal position, and standards.
- Pastoral heart with the ability to balance empathy with exhortation.
- Familiarity with and/or willingness to learn general HR practices and policies pertinent to PBI and the jurisdictions of the Province of Alberta and the nation of Canada.
- Administrative Skill and Experience Able to understand and work well within complex administrative networks Excellent organizational skills Personnel-management skills (hire, supervise, evaluate & promote staff development)
- Experience in administration of staff Proven ability to make decisions and stand by them
- Ability to arbitrate disagreements, enforce rules, and exercise discipline
- Ability to do research and critical evaluation, and to generate effective reports
- Strong analytical skills; ability to identify and verbalize issues, grasp the relationships between them and prioritize them
- Creative problem-solving skills (able to find creative options, to apply them to practical issues, to evaluate them and adapt them as necessary, etc.)
- Able to critically evaluate programs and plans Business, Financial Skill and Experience Competence and integrity in the management of finances
- Experience in institutional budget development
- Marketing sense Some experience in (and/or knowledge of) facility management is preferred
- Good knowledge of the Canadian and North American Bible College and Christian ministry marketplace (especially Western Canada) would be an asset
- Experience in developing consensus
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively
- Sensitivity to intercultural issues and needs
- Experience and ability in building team relationships
- Personal Team player Visionary; able to nurture a sense of shared vision within the PBI community
- Open to creative and innovative approaches to college education
