Position Overview:

Reports to: Director of Student Services/ Dean of Student Services


MISSION: To provide leadership in services to Multnomah's residential and commuter students and provide leadership to the Student Services Department.


Primary Responsibilities:

Relative to Supervising Residence Life

 

Objective: To provide direct leadership to the Residence Life program and professional live-in staff.

 

Typical Duties:

 

Serve as Director of Residence Life with supervisory responsiblity of three Resident Directors and approximately 20 RAs.

  • Provide supervision and support to RA training and selection programs.
  • Implement staff evaluation process.
  • Prioritize work tasks for Resident Directors.
  • Develop programming model consistent with Student Services mission: Luke 2:52.
  • Manage budget for Residence Life.
  • Develop Resident Directors' ability to analyze student needs and develop programs to assess needs.
  • Be available for consultation with staff during regular office hours and by phone.

Relative to Supervising Commuter Life

 

Objective: To provide consultation and support to the Commuter Life Coordinator.

 

Typical duties:

  • Supervise Commuter Life Coordinator with supervision responsibility of two Commuter Assistants.
  • Develop relationships with commuter students and develop need-based programming.
  • Work to integrate commuter students into the Multnomah community.
  • Strategize with campus partners to align support services to meet commuter student needs.
  • Champion for commuter students with faculty to advocate for policy changes where necessary.
  • Oversee budget with Dean of Student Services for Commuter Life program.

Relative to Relationships with Students

 

Objective: To develop mentoring relationships with students.

 

Typical duties:

  • To aid in the process of the spiritual development of students.
  • Make referrals to Counseling Center when necessary and serve as lay counselor where appropriate.
  • Respond to and effectively manage student crisis as they arise.

Relative to Coordinating Assessment

 

Objective: To provide leadership to Student Services departmental assessment efforts.

 

Typical duties:

  • Work collaboratively with Dean of Student Services to ehance assessment efforts of departmental mission, programs, and initiatives.
  • Coordinate assessment efforts relative to program effectiveness and student satisfaction in Commuter and Residence Life.

Relative to Coordinating Academic Learning Services

 

Objective: To provide leadership to develop and implement Academic Learning Services for students.

 

Typical duties:

  • Serve as liaison between the department and other academic support services campus-wide to improve resources and availabilty of services to students.
  • Research best practices with academic support services to enhance learning service goals.

Relative to the Student Affairs Committee

 

Objective: To be a member of the Student Affairs Committee.

 

Typical duties:

  • Meet weekly with committee to consider student petitions and appropriately follow up with students.
  • Provide insights and perspectives of the residential and commuter experience to the committee.

Other

Objective : To be a responsible and contributing faculty member.

 

Typical duties:

  • Accept and serve on committee assignments as requested by the administration in consultation with the Dean of Student Services.
  • Potential to teach as requested by the Academic Dean and agreed on by the Dean of Student Services.
  • Follow faculty handbook guidelines.
  • Cooperate with other faculty on college initiatives and student issues.
  • Assist in the planing and implementation of parent orientation at the beginning of the fall semester.
  • Present handbook orientation in the fall to new students.
  • Assist the Dean of Student Services in planning the orientation and publicity materials.
  • Identify and assign areas of responsibility for Residence and Commuter Life in student orientation.
  • Communicate the availability of the fund to the Resident Assistants so they can refer students.
  • Investigate student circumstances that might qualify for use of the fund and determine that the basis of need is not one of irresponsibility but of unavoidable circumstances.
  • Complete requisitions for students who need help.

     

Qualifications:

Job-specific Requirements

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the ministry and mission of Multnomah
  • A masters degree in college student services, counseling, or related field
  • Three-five years prior experience in a college or youth ministries setting
  • Knowledge and familiarity with federal and state laws relating to student issues i.e. confidentiality, etc.

  • The employee will be a regular participant in a local, evangelical church.
