Athletic Director

Position Overview:
  • Providence College, a NCCAA, CPAC, NIAC level college, seeks an athletic director who can build on the success of its program and provide athletic and recreation leadership in a dynamic and innovative college aiming to advance its standing as a nationally recognized institution of higher education.
  • The athletic director reports to the Vice President for Student Services and is responsible for planning, budgeting, developing and directing intercollegiate and inter-mural athletic programs and all recreation activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • The athletic director is expected to provide leadership and administrative skills necessary to achieve a successful athletic program, ensure compliance to all governing authorities and establish a strong and positive presence at the local, regional and national levels.
  • The athletic director is also expected to oversee: assistant athletic director, sports information director, student workers and coaches.
  • To hire qualified coaches and administer annual evaluations.
  • To work with sports camp director in preparation and running of summer sports camps.
  • Oversee or act as administration of all PC varsity teams (scheduling of all varsity teams, travel and hotel arrangements, uniforms, etc.).
  • Oversees and is present at some Freemen home games in cooperation with assistant athletic director and game management personnel.
  • Oversee development of initiatives for recruiting student athletes Purchase/order all necessary gym equipment.
  • Oversees all gym scheduling (varsity games, practices, intramural, recreation).
  • Be a member of the Providence Classic Golf Tournament Committee.
  • Other duties as determined by the Vice President for Student Development.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree (Masters Degree preferred) in one or more related fields: sports administration, physical education, recreation management
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful athletic and recreation experience
  • College coaching experience
  • The successful candidate will have an understanding of the role of intercollegiate athletics and recreation in higher education:
    • fostering a philosophy of student recruitment that emphasizes the value for academic excellence as an athlete; 
    • experience in administration at a college or university level program;
    • thorough knowledge of league regulations, requirements and reporting systems;
    • demonstrate skills in written, oral and interpersonal communication;
    • have an understanding of marketing, development and promotion of programs.
  • Experience working with people
  • A strong administrator
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks at one time · Ability to operate a computer
  • Ability to move about the campus and to interact with students, faculty and staff and guests
  • Physically capable of moving athletic and recreation equipment
  • Pleasant and clearly understandable voice

Work Arrangement: This is a full time position with the following:

  • Evenings and weekends as required ·
  • Job-related travel, away from the office approximately 10-20 % of the time.
  • Office space provided at PC/PTS.
  • Cell phone and answering machine provided as necessary.
  • Personal computer with access to the PC/PTS computer network.
  • Car allowance and/or access to company vehicle provided for work-related use.
  • Annual evaluation by the Vice President for Student Services

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary is negotiable, depending upon education and experience.
  • The compensation package includes 3 weeks of vacation, and group life insurance, short and long term disability and accidental death and disability after 3 months employment.
  • Flexible Health Benefits also commence after 3 months of employment.
  • A corporate pension plan is optional after one year of employment with PC/PTS.
  • Other benefits will be discussed with the Human Resources Department.
