Position Overview:

The Academic Dean serves as Chief Academic Officer and member of the Administrative Cabinet reporting to the President.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Dean will provide dynamic leadership to the faculty and academic department in the fulfillment of Bethany’s mission to prepare world-class Christian leaders for ministry.

Qualifications:
  1. A person of sterling character, Christ-like in both spirit and disposition and of unquestionable integrity; known as an effective person of prayer and understanding of the Word of God with a spirit of mercy and compassion; clear witness of spiritual transformation both in new birth and sanctification.
  2. Strongly committed to and knowledgeable in the Wesleyan holiness theological tradition with an astute understanding of the Church’s history, mission, and ministry.
  3. A quintessential spiritual leader - with a compelling love for God and an abiding passion to fulfill the great commission by raising up Christian leaders for the world-wide cause of Christ; known as a person of godly wisdom and judgment, with an understanding of the times in which we live, and having developed a comprehensive biblical worldview.
  4. A person of vision with the capacity to inspire faculty in the creation and consistent delivery of post-secondary high quality academic programs of study related to all facets of Christian ministry; capable of creatively solving problems, addressing issues and holding others accountable for assigned responsibilities.
  5. An energetic, high-capacity scholar, capable writer and speaker, inspired by daunting challenges, patiently persistent in addressing complex problems, courageously entrepreneurial in exploring new methods and venues for theological education and compelled by a global vision of Christian ministry that all may come to know Christ.
  6. Familiar with under-graduate and post-graduate theological educational enterprise including learning theory, teaching methodology, curriculum development, outcomes assessment, and educational delivery systems.
  7. Holding an earned doctoral degree of high credibility with a focus in theology or philosophy strongly preferred; prior experience teaching on a college faculty required.
  8. Preference for ordained clergy.
