Position Overview:

The Data Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration of core, enterprise-critical data processing systems, as well as providing end-user support and training for these systems. The Data Systems Administrator will write reports, assist others in writing reports, will write custom software/queries to import/export data from these systems, and maintain documentation of systems and procedures.

 

The Data Systems Administrator will work closely with the ERP Implementation Project Manager to facilitate the implementation of a new ERP system, as well as work with the vendor on conversion and migration of data from the old ERP system.


 

Primary Responsibilities:

Including, but not limited to:

 

Technical

  • Administrate database systems, primarily Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring reliable operation
  • Administrate data processing applications, primarily Hope's ERP system, ensuring reliable operation
  • Write custom software and SQL queries to transfer data between various systems, integrate various systems, and produce meaningful reports
  • Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot software used in data-processing systems; both server-side and client-side

Supportive

  • Assist end-users in effectively and efficiently utilizing data processing systems to facilitate the fulfillment of their job duties
  • Assist end-users in troubleshooting and problem-resolution of systems responsible for
  • Assist end-users in generating reports
  • Develop and implement training materials and programs for end-users/departments

Administrative

  • Define and establish policies to ensure data integrity and security
  • Maintain service contracts and all necessary records related to systems responsible for
  • Maintain current versions of software and apply updates and patches in a timely fashion
  • Monitor and manage system resources to ensure systems have adequate capacity for daily operations. Observe and record usage trends and make suggestions on how to maintain and improve system capacity and reliability
  • Review system and application logs on a regular basis to detect errors or security violations
  • Perform daily system backups and ensure proper handling and storage of backup tapes
  • Develop and maintain documentation on system and software configurations as well as common processes and procedures
  • Serve as liaison between Hope and system vendors
  • Research and make recommendations on new hardware and software purchases

  • Stay abreast with current trends and developments in hardware, software, Internet technologies, threat vectors, and other areas related to your sphere of responsibilities
  • Participate in formal training as required and appropriate
  • Travel as required
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations and user's groups
  • Share in IS duties, including staffing the Help Desk as needed
  • Maintain a knowledge of University policies and procedures related to IS and report any observed concerns to IS Director

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma required, Bachelor's degree in MIS or Computer Science or relevant professional certifications strongly preferred
  • Minimum of three years of general PC usage
  • Minimum of one year of experience with SQL-based, relational database systems
  • Must also understand and be able to work with non-relational, non-normalized databases
  • Minimum two years of programming experience. Proficient in at least one modern programming language.

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate a solid knowledge of SQL, database normalization. Will be required to design well-structured databases and write non-trivial queries to retrieve data
  • Will be required to demonstrate the ability to come up with logical solutions to common programming tasks, especially as related to data-interchange between systems
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office applications as related to data processing (reporting, spreadsheets, mail-merges, etc).
  • Experience with Crystal Reports a plus
  • Good understanding of web-based technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, ASP, CGI-BIN, XML, etc)
  • In-depth knowledge of current technological and sociological threat vectors (viruses, spyware, phishing, social engineering, etc)
  • AS/400 and RPG experience a plus

  • Able to operate well in a ?busy? environment where multiple conversations/activities may be occurring at one time

Physical Demands:

  • Is able to lift, grasp, stoop, and carry up to sixty pounds, as required for equipment and supplies management
  • Possesses a valid California Driver's License, auto insurance, and a suitable vehicle for providing on-site support at remote locations.

Note: Hope International University consists of several locations throughout the Southern California area. The Data Systems Administrator will provide on-site service at all locations as needed.
