Director of Online Development

Position Overview:

  • The Director of Online Development is responsible for assisting faculty in planning and developing online and independent (IDL) courses and developing the online course delivery system at Columbia International University.
  • The director focuses on producing courses of high quality and effective delivery.
  • The director represents the department to internal academic constituencies with regard to online course development, and supervises online instructional design personnel and the pool of faculty assistants servicing independent courses.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership for CIU in the area of online delivery by staying current in instructional strategies and technologies consistent with high quality online learning.
  • Design and adapt the online delivery system and system components for effective and easy use by non-technical faculty.
  • Manage the course development schedule and supervise the online instructional designer in the development of online courses, workshops, tutorials, and other helpful resources for faculty and students regarding online learning.
  • Personally assist individual faculty in the design of selected online courses. Supervise the pool of faculty assistants assigned to independent (IDL) courses and coordinate the review of courses with assigned professors.
  • Work cooperatively with the DEMD Production Manager and Assistant to the Dean to manage workloads and priorities to achieve department objectives by assigned deadlines.
  • Work with the Dean's Offices and faculty to ensure the timely publication of online and independent course syllabi.
  • Work with the Assessment and Student Services Coordinator to ensure the systematic collection, collation, and distribution of evaluation data on all distance education courses.
  • Prepare assessment reports, recommend strategies for improvement, and verify that courses utilizing online and multimedia components are user friendly and adhere to appropriate quality control measures.
  • Represent DEMD at designated faculty and committee meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Doctorate or master's degree in instructional design, information technology, or a related educational field; or a master's degree and equivalent experience in online delivery systems required.
  • A minimum of three years experience in online course development required. Bible college or seminary graduate with distance education experience in a biblical and ministry higher education setting preferred.
