Two years ago, within the context of its review for renewal of its USDE recognition, ABHE held a referendum to clarify that the Essential Elements related to the standards were themselves standards. While the membership overwhelmingly approved action to confirm that the Essential Elements were standards, some members expressed the opinion that the “elements” should be reviewed to ensure that, as standards, they were all needed and expressed in the best possible manner. The Commission on Accreditation through its Committee on Criteria initiated such a review and, at its most recent meeting, approved for circulation to the membership proposed modifications to the Essential Elements. Additionally, in conducting the review, the Commission has proposed to combine Standards #2 and #12 and to shift some Essential Elements from Standard #11 to Standard #9. The Commission is soliciting member feedback for consideration at its February 2009 meeting. Unless there are significant concerns from the membership, the Commission anticipates placing these proposals before the membership for adoption at the 2009 ABHE Annual Meeting. --> View Proposals
